CURRICULUM

Our Vision – Inspired to learn, supported to succeed

An Innovative Curriculum

Diversity and richness of personal, creative and social opportunities

We place our students at the centre of all that we do, shaping a curriculum to suit their interests, abilities and aspirations, as well as preparing them to compete in the most demanding walks of life.

Our curriculum is characterised by:

Relevance: learning experiences that are important or engaging to students; that enable them to make sense of the world around them.

Continuity and coherence: units of work that build on those that have preceded them and prepare students for those that are to follow so that progress can be both rapid and secure.

Breadth: a curriculum that encompasses a wide range of skills and subjects.

Balance: student timetables that give appropriate time for courses to be successfully delivered.

Differentiation: programmes of study that are tailored to meet the needs of different groups of students; supporting & challenging those who join us with low levels of attainment to catch up; providing opportunities for more able students to examine subjects in greater depth & complexity.

Enrichment: memorable experiences within and beyond the classroom that bring learning to life and life to learning.

Rigour: the curriculum will lead to qualifications that have value and worth in the eyes of colleges, universities and employers.

Literacy and numeracy:  a cross-curricular focus on the skills that underpin all learning.

Our own aspiration is therefore that no student should leave our school without knowing what their qualities and abilities are, without having achieved something worthwhile with them while they are with us and without a clear pathway to show them how they can further develop them when they leave us so that they can achieve something significant with their lives.
