On Tuesday 15th January 2019 Ringwood School hosted The English Schools’ FA PlayStation Schools’ Cup.

The PlayStation Schools’ Cup is an exciting grassroots football partnership between PlayStation and the English Schools’ Football Association (ESFA). It is the biggest football tournament in the country for secondary schools open to both boys and girls.

To support this event we had Premier League Bournemouth and England football player Callum Wilson in school.

Outside, our students were lucky enough to have a coaching session with Callum whilst inside a fierce PS4 FIFA 19 football tournament was taking place. Following his coaching session Callum then settled down to play Luke Jackson of Year 8 who had won the student FIFA 19 tournament.

Two friendly football fixtures took place during the afternoon between our Under 16 girls’ team and Bournemouth School for Girls and our Under 13 boys’ team and the Burgate School. Both home and away teams got introduced to Callum, who took it in turn to shake each of their hands before their matches kicked off.

Over 100 of our students were involved in the question and answer session with Callum which took place in our main assembly hall. Students were able to take selfies with Callum, while he signed t-shirts, posters, football cards and even phone cases.

We believe our students thrived from having this opportunity to meet a top sports man. Callum answered questions on what it took to be the best, allowing students to take his answers and use them to work towards their own school and personal goals for the future. Be sure to keep a look out for BBC’s CBBC show ‘Kickabout’ where two of our students, Isaac Churchill Year 7 and Winnie Hiriart Year 8, will be making their TV debut and Sky Sports show ‘Soccer Saturday’ where six of our students Aston Handley Year 10, Erica Brown Year 10, Jite Ono-Sorhue Year 9, Lois Murphy Year 11, Scott Bungay Year 8 and Sophie Dunning Year 9 got the chance to take part in their game changers challenge
