Congratulations to Ringwood School Class of 2022

Earlier this summer, Year 13 Ringwood School students sat A-Level examinations for the first time since 2019. This cohort faced the additional challenge of never having sat external examinations before as their GCSE exams were abruptly cancelled in the summer of 2020; they experienced an 8 week school closure in the first year of their A-Levels and many lessons since then have been subject to disruption as almost all students and their teachers have been out of school with Covid at some point.

Despite these unprecedented challenges our students have shown the utmost determination and resilience and have today reaped the rewards.  It has been a pleasure to greet students this morning as they came into school to collect their results. All students have been keen to share their successes with their teachers and all echoed their thanks to the staff who have guided them through their courses over the last two years.

We are delighted that our students have equalled outstanding A-Level performances of the past. This year the percentage of top grades (grades A*/A/B) is 65.4%. The percentage of A*-C grades at A-Level is 88% and the average grade at our centre this year is grade B. Early calculations suggest that the school has retained an “Outstanding” rating from ALPs (a national progress measure for A-Level), which puts Ringwood School in the top 10% of Post 16 providers nationally.

There has been exceptional success in a wide range of subjects this year. In Art, the A*-B rate was high above the school average with an incredible 86% of students attaining the highest of grades; 80% of the class got A*-B in Economics and English Language. English have had a double success this year with 89% of their A-Level English Literature cohort securing A*-B. Further Maths and Spanish has again secured an amazing 100% A*-B.

We are a sixth form that is proud to offer some vocational options alongside our more traditional A-Level subjects. These qualifications have also delivered significant success this year with an average grade in these subjects being Distinction* (equivalent to an A-Level A*). All students on the BTEC Double Production Arts course secured a Distinction or Distinction*; 92% attained a Distinction or Distinction* in their OCR Sport Level 3 qualification and 88% of our Health and Social cohort have secured a Distinction or Distinction*.

There have been many personal successes. For example, 24 of our students have secured at least 3 grades at A*/A. Our students are now embarking on the next stage of their journey with many heading off to university this autumn to read a wide and interesting range of subjects including Law;  Physics; Economics; History of Art; Environmental Studies; Bio Medical Sciences; Midwifery; Physiotherapy; Computer Game Design; Musical Theatre and Aerospace Engineering to name but a few.  Some students are taking up apprenticeship opportunities, including a highly prestigious placement with Dyson, and others are entering the world of work.

We wish all of our students every success for their future.

A message from Tim, our Chair of Governors:

Today will be a day of great joy.

All of the Governors are incredibly proud of the hard work and achievements of our students receiving A Level results today.

This moment is the culmination of, quite literally, years of determined endeavour across a vast array of subjects.

When celebrating those achievements we are sure that you would be the first to acknowledge the skill, dedication and professionalism of your teachers at the School, and the unconditional support of those who love and care for you at home.  A team effort in the truest sense.

Today is a day of great and well-deserved celebration for everyone.

It is a day of celebration because it represents the start of the next, exciting chapter in your journey of learning.

We are mindful that for some the journey may not feel as straightforward today as you might have wished.  We know from experience however that with a calm headed approach today and a creative  mindset in the days ahead there is every reason to believe that great opportunities can be there for the taking too. Joy may feel hard to muster today, but of course today represents only the start of the journey; there is so much that lies ahead.

Irrespective of your plans for the future, we would like to re-iterate how proud we are as Governors of you and your achievements, and of all those who have played such a vital role in making today the joyous occasion we hope it truly is.  We offer our best wishes to you for what remains of the Summer holidays and beyond.
