Ringwood School specifically supports School Direct through the University of Winchester across our alliance of schools in both primary and secondary training. School Direct is a teacher training programme which provides two distinct routes into teaching. Each route provides the same high quality training and the same final qualification. School Direct 2022-23 – Initial Teacher Training
We have been working in partnership with other good and outstanding schools for many years to deliver high quality training and professional development for teachers across Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Bournemouth.
School Direct Information Evening 2021
Join us at Ringwood School on Wednesday 20 October at 6:00pm to find out more about school-based teacher training (School Direct). Talk to representatives from Primary and Secondary schools in our Partnership and The University of Winchester, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ provider of teacher education. Learn about the new DfE application process and have your specific questions answered by experts. The School Direct route offers QTS and PGCE with an opportunity to gain 60 masters credits supported and accredited by the University. This informal evening begins with a presentation from The University of Winchester and introductions from various schools we work with. You will also have a chance to speak with School Direct leads and current trainees. Open to all aspiring teachers who have completed a degree, or who are in their final year at University and have achieved or be predicted to achieve a 2:2 or above. Professional Skills Tests
Professional Skills Tests have been replaced with provider-led assurance for all new entrants into teacher training from 1 April 2020. The Skills Tests Test Centres closed on 24 June 2020. Winchester University, our Accrediting ITT Provider will assure a candidate’s fundamental English and Mathematics.
PGCE Secondary School Direct: Mathematics & English Tasks
Applicants for Initial Teacher Education (ITE) courses are longer required to complete the Skills Tests for Numeracy and English. For courses commencing in 2022, it is the responsibility of the ITE provider to ensure that all trainee teachers have acquired and demonstrate an appropriate proficiency in English and mathematics before they can be awarded Qualified Teacher Status at the end of their course.
The University of Winchester is committed to supporting trainee teachers to acquire, develop and enhance their knowledge of the fundamental skills in English and Mathematics required by the profession they wish to enter.
Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses:
SKE funding for ITE courses starting in September 2022 is yet to be announced. Funding for SKE and the subjects available may change.
