Support for Children in Care, Previously in Care, and in Kinship Care

At Ringwood School, we are committed to supporting the individual needs of every student — including those who are currently in care, have been adopted from care, or are living in kinship care arrangements such as under a Special Guardianship Order.

What is Pupil Premium Plus?

Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) is additional government funding provided to schools to help support the education of children who:

  • Are currently in the care of the Local Authority
  • Have been adopted from care
  • Are living under a Special Guardianship Order or Child Arrangement Order

This funding is designed to help remove barriers to learning, close attainment gaps, and provide enhanced support to meet social, emotional, and academic needs.

What Support Can We Offer?

Through PP+ funding, we can offer a wide range of personalised support. This may include:

  • 1:1 or small group tuition to boost progress in key subjects
  • Access to enrichment activities such as music lessons, school trips, or clubs
  • Pastoral support and mentoring to promote wellbeing and positive relationships
  • Learning resources or equipment to support home or school learning
  • Priority access to wider support services, such as ELSA or counselling
  • Regular check-ins with our Designated Teacher, who acts as a key point of contact

We work closely with carers, social workers, the Virtual School and families to ensure this support is tailored to each young person’s needs and reviewed regularly.

Not Sure If Your Child Is Eligible?

Sometimes families are unsure whether their child is currently accessing this support — especially if they were adopted some time ago or if they are in a kinship care arrangement which hasn't been mentioned to the school.

If you think your young person might be eligible for Pupil Premium Plus, or you would like to know more about the support on offer, please get in touch with our Designated Teacher for Looked After and Previously Looked After Children, Clare Adams, or Sam Allsopp our Deputy Designated Teacher for Looked After and Previously Looked After Children , via the safeguarding inbox: safeguarding@ringwood.hants.sch.uk

All enquiries will be handled confidentially and with sensitivity.
