Recent OFSTED inspection celebrates outstanding teaching, high achievement and happy, successful students
Ofsted report recognises significant improvement at Ringwood School and Sixth Form, with five judgements at ‘strong standard’ level.

As you will remember, we were inspected by Ofsted at the beginning of this academic year, on 15th and 16th September. Following our inspection, we are delighted to now be able to share the Ofsted report, which recognises not only the very high quality of education provided at the school and sixth form, but also the strong emphasis placed on student happiness, wellbeing, safety and belonging.
We were categorised as a ‘good’ school under the previous inspection regime. The majority of schools (65%) previously categorised as ‘good’ are attaining a typical ‘expected standard’ grade under the new system. We were told by our Ofsted team that this like new ‘expected’ grade was harder to achieve than ‘good’ because every aspect of the grade criteria must be met. Only 15% of previously ‘good’ schools attain a typical ‘strong standard’; and with 5 strong standards, this is how Ringwood School has been judged. This aligns with the previous ‘outstanding’ judgement and again, this is thought to be even more demanding than outstanding because every aspect of the grade must be satisfied. This demonstrates the significant improvement of our already good school and sixth form over the last 4 years.
In the report, inspectors have highlighted the positive experience pupils have at school, noting that “pupils are safe, happy and successful”; that “pupils are thriving” and that the school has created a strong “culture of belonging.” These comments reflect our commitment to ensuring that every child feels valued, supported and able to flourish.
There was significant praise for the quality of teaching at the school. Inspectors praised “passionate and inspiring” teachers who are “experts in their subjects”. The report notes that students “enjoy lessons”; are “empowered to work hard” and “therefore thrive in lessons.” As a result of this high-quality teaching, our students secure “highly positive outcomes” and “go on to ambitious and appropriate destinations”.
The report recognises the caring and inclusive environment that staff work hard to create each day. Ofsted noted the school's strong safeguarding culture, stating that because of this, “pupils are made safer and feel safe”. Inspectors also praised the positive impact the school has on pupils' wider development beyond the classroom, commenting that the “wider enrichment offer and careers support ensure that students also develop mature life skills.”
The report recognises that students benefit from a broad range of opportunities that help them develop confidence, resilience, and important life skills. Inspectors found that the wider enrichment programme, that pupils are “effusive about”, enables them to take on leadership roles, make significant contributions to school life and prepare successfully for their futures.
My favourite line in the report is the very final line. Quite rightly, the final word goes to a student who told the inspection team “I feel so lucky to come to this school”.
I would like to thank our students, staff, governors, parents, and carers for their continued support. This positive report celebrates what we have achieved together as we continue every day to strive to provide the very best education, care, and opportunities for every child.
