Enrichment

Students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of enrichment activities.

These opportunities arise due to a long history of staff putting themselves out there and running extra-curricular clubs, during lunchtime and after school. Educational visits have always been an important part of Ringwood School and a number have been firmly established for over 20 years, with trips to the Belgium Battlefields, New York and Iceland to name just a few opportunities on offer. Learning outside the classroom adds to a deeper understanding and we try to broaden our visits offer wherever possible. We publish our trips offer yearly to ensure parents can plan accordingly, and you will find it in the links below.

Activities Week

With many children missing out on a huge array of opportunities due to Covid, the school had its inaugural Activities Week in the Summer of 2023. This allows all KS3 children the opportunity to experience a huge range of activities, both in and out of school.

Curriculum Competitions

The variety of curriculum-based competitions entered is enormous and students are very successful due to the preparations with staff, and the student determination and skill. Through Student Leadership, many of our students share ideas within and beyond this school; locally, nationally and internationally.

Duke of Edinburgh

The DofE is a nationally recognised award that embodies the school’s commitment to providing high quality extracurricular activities to complement excellent academic outcomes. The four components of the award also reflect our desire to equip students with relevant life skills that will also serve them well as they make their way towards the next step in their education and employment. We, as a school, are the biggest DofE provider in Hampshire with well over 100 students a year taking either the Bronze or Silver award with us in Year 9 -11. The teamwork, communication and leadership skills gained often prove invaluable as the students move through the school and beyond.

Other Opportunities

National Citizen Service (NCS) is a flagship government initiative, developing new skills and a broader set of horizons. Participants develop confidence and learn skills that cannot be learnt in the classroom – leadership, teamwork, independence and community action. Each year a small group of students are able to participate in the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) in New York & Washington.

Debates are organised for a mix of age groups, Sixth Former’s discuss current issues in a Question Time format and some years we have been fortunate to secure a place in the House of Commons debates, and a place to practice legal skills in the Bar Court Competition. The School has entered the Shakespeare Festival and The Maths Challenge over the last few years. Preparing students for life after school is a vital part of learning here at Ringwood School.
